What are PIVOT core boards?
- PIVOT core boards are squares of 12-16 related CORE words with a picture. PIVOT core boards with 12 locations have PIVOT centers (blank square) in the middle for adding PIVOT words. The CORE WORDS are in a permanent location and pivot around the changing PIVOT (fringe) words.
- When stacked together with a pronoun strip, they include 82-106 of the most frequently used words in spoken English, CORE VOCABULARY.
- When used as separate PIVOT boards, they can be used within an activity, routine, or play to teach specific messages or concepts for lots of practice with larger targets and fewer visual distractions.
- This product includes 6 PIVOT core boards: Question, Action, Activity, Concept, Preposition and Social + a PRONOUN STRIP.
- When using the 12 location boards with PIVOT centers, you can differentiate by putting objects, one photo, or a grid with line drawings of images related to the concepts you are teaching or highly motivating nouns. You can attach those pictures to the center of the PIVOT board using tape or hook and loop. You can print the boards in whatever size fits your learner’s physical and visual skills.
- Building sentence length becomes easy…want bubbles, help bubbles, more bubbles, get bubbles, put bubbles, open bubbles. Paired with a pronoun strip=I want bubbles, You get bubbles. You use the pivot words to build the core vocabulary that won’t change with each activity, lesson, class or age..
- By using the PIVOT interactive notebook, you can KEEP CONTENT VOCABULARY AVAILABLE by then adding PIVOT words (content words, highly motivating nouns, theme words) to a page in the notebook. This way you avoid giving and taking away nouns and concept vocabulary that you taught with a unit.
